Situated on the Island of Luing near Toberonochy, this 1.2 acre site commands spectacular north eastern views overlooking the Shana Sound. The commission was to design a large contemporary 4 bedroom detached villa.
The size of the proposed house posed the greatest challenge as it is uncharacteristic of the buildings in the area. Luing was once a slate quarrying island and is populated predominately by small whitewashed workers cottages which consist of wide frontages with narrow plans and steeply pitched roofs.
Our response to this when designing this house was to break down the mass of the proposed house into smaller elements and arrange them in a composition that mimics an existing cluster of buildings.
