Set on a unique wedged shaped plot in Newton Mearns, Glasgow, we were commissioned to create a contemporary 5 bedroom luxury villa.
The house has been organised over two levels with the upper floor of the building offset from the ground floor to create a dynamic building form befitting of the dynamic wedge-shaped plot.
On the ground floor, the main body of the house is organised around the central entrance hall. The narrow plan enables the spaces to take maximum advantage of natural light and ventilation.
To the left of the entrance lies the reception lounge which is screened from the road via a top-lit sandstone wall and feature fireplace. The south-east and south-west elevations of the lounge are fully glazed to connect the living space to the landscape. The offset first floor creates a covered patio which acts as a transition between the internal and external space. A wine room lies on the north side of the reception lounge and adds a touch of glamour.
To the right of the entrance hall lies the open plan kitchen, dining and family area which opens fully onto a south-westerly facing sun terrace. A double height void over the family area connects the ground and first-floor levels and enables a two storey glass wall to flood the open plan space with natural light. A large utility and boot room off the kitchen gives access to the family parking area with carport, bin storage and external clothes drying area.
Straight ahead of the entrance hall, but not accessible from it, lies the external lounge. This space contains an open fire and is open on two sides. An external kitchen and BBQ also serves this space.
Parallel to the south-west boundary runs a single storey structure which houses the family swimming pool and Jacuzzi. This structure has been strategically positioned to create a private courtyard screened from neighbouring houses.
The processional staircase leads to the first-floor gallery overlooking the open plan family area. The main body of the first floor houses 4 ensuite bedrooms, gallery study and family bathroom. A media room projects from the front elevation and doubles as a Porte Cochere over the main entrance.
An inhabited bridge link accommodates the master bedroom suite and provides access to the spiral stair which descends directly from the bedroom quarters to the swimming pool.
