This is a beautiful three storey 19th century sandstone semi-detached house set in a lovely tree lined street in Uddingston. The existing house is arranged in a traditional two storey configuration to the front. To the rear the land falls sharply creating the third storey. The basement level separates the house from the south facing garden.
The project brief was to bring the damp, dark basement into beneficial use and connect the house to the garden.
Our approach was to fully open up the basement and form a single storey rear extension. This allowed us to create an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge which opens to a private patio and the garden beyond. We also designed a canopy over the south facing glazing to limit solar gains and control direct sunlight into space.
