Situated just south of Ballantrae, this building exists as a disused concrete subterranean Scottish Water storage tank. Historically the tank served the residents of Ballantrae. The site is set high on a westerly facing hill with panoramic views over the countryside and the Atlantic Ocean.
The project brief was to create a 3 bedroom dwelling house. Our approach was to introduce an entrance at the base of the tank and covert the tank itself into 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. A staircase was added to access a new upper level consisting of an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge which opens onto a patio with panoramic views.
Our design sympathetically integrates the building into the countryside through the use of timber cladding, rubble stonework and a green roof.
